2010 Campaigns

This is the home page for Matthew J. Fraser's  run for the Massachusetts State Senate. For those interested in progress, you  can check out the ideas here. The campaign site, is at  www.massstatesenate.wordpress.com The district is Massachusetts Second Essex, which includes the communities of Salem, Beverly, Peabody, Danvers and Topsfield where I'm running as an Independent.

Language Abilities Apart from extensive knowledge of politics and policy, especially in education, the most valuable skills I bring to the table are my language abilities. In descending order, from languages I'm completely fluent in to those that I can hold a simple conversation in are; German, Swedish, Spanish, Russian, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Czech, Dutch, Serbo-Croatian, Icelandic, Chinese and Japanese. I was an immigrant in Germany for three years, dealing with poverty, poor language skills and inconsistent work permit policies. I managed to build a great life, but I can identify with some aspects of the immigrant experience here.

Second Essex Races Every political race is an opportunity for the people to win, whether through new ideas or better uses of old ones. And, the more candidates get outside themselves and do so, the more the people win. Some candidates on the ballot for our district are below. Please Excuse Missing Candidates; we'll get the complete list here soon.

Bill Hudak vs. John Tierney

Ted Speliotis vs. Dan Bennett

Brett Schetzsle vs.

Language Learning and  Charter Schools: There is a great deal of discussion about whether the charter schools serve students in the state well or not, especially when it comes to immigrants learning the English language. To be honest, charter school or not doesn't make much difference; it's about the students, the teacher, specific goals and a plan to carry it out. Simply put, both English and world language programs can be made much more effective without spending much money at all, which is explained on the campaign site and in Ideas for America 1.
